Rose-cut gemstones are gems with flat bottoms and domed checkerboard or faceted crowns. Many black gemstones, such as black spinel and black tourmaline are given a rose cut, to show off their luster. Also, some opaque gems, such as lapis lazuli and sapphire are rose cut.
