Chrysocolla is hydrous copper silicate in gemstone-quality form. It often forms with copper salts, iron and manganese oxides. It is sought after for its attractive colors and unique multicolored patterns. It belongs to a small group of copper-bearing gems, which includes malachite, azurite, larimar, Oregon sunstone, Paraiba tourmaline and turquoise.

It is mined in Israel, Zaire, Chile, England, Mexico, Peru, Russia, and the USA. The state of Arizona is known to produce some of the finest chrysocolla available today.

Chrysocolla is found in a wide range of hardnesses, ranging from 2.5 to 7.0 on the Mohs scale

Chrysocolla is not a Birthstone for any month, but it is often associated with Taurus, and it is also attributed to Cancer, Aquarius, Libra, & Virgo.
