It is named after the province of Labrador in Canada where the stone was first mined. Geologists were enthralled by its shimmering iridescence and deep blue-green shades. In native mythology, it was believed that Labradorite is the stone that trapped the northern lights.
The stone is associated with the zodiac signs of Leo, Scorpio and Saggitarius.
