Product Description

Jasper is a fine grained quartz with a host of foreign matter. It is formed in the sedimentary manner when the original silicic acid solution penetrates clayey or sandy rock or is itself permeated with a multitude of suspended particles. When the silicic acid solidifies into quartz; the clayey, sandy, or finely distributed particles remain and enclose within the jasper as it forms and give it its opaque colour and unique markings.

Picture jaspers exhibit combinations of patterns such as banding from flow or depositional patterns from water or wind, dendritic growths or color variations resulting in what appear to be scenes or images on a cut section.

While these picture jaspers can be found all over the world, specific colors or patterns are unique to the geographic region from which they originate. Oregon's Biggs jasper and Owyhee Jasper, and Idaho's Bruneau jasper from the Bruneau River canyon are particularly fine examples.

Jasper is believed to imbue courage, readiness for conflict, aggression when dealing with things in a straight forward manner. Jasper is known as the "supreme nurturer". It is said to sustain and support you during times of stress and brings tranquillity and a feeling of wholeness.

Jasper is associated with the astrological signs of leo, virgo, and scorpio.

Jasper rates between a 6.5 and 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness.

This is a natural stone product. Please expect flaws and imperfections. You will receive an item that looks similar to the example pictured.
