Product Description
Tourmaline derives its name from the Singhalese phrase “tura mali,” meaning, “stone mixed with vibrant colors.” It is a member of the boron silicates family of minerals.
The colours found in tourmalines have many different causes. It’s generally agreed that traces of iron, and possibly titanium, induce green and blue colors. Manganese produces reds and pinks, and possibly yellows. Some pink and yellow tourmalines might owe their hues to color centers caused by radiation, which can be natural or laboratory-induced.
It is the birthstone for the zodiac signs of Virgo and Libra.
Tourmalines, in general, are excellent tools for energizing and balancing the chakras. The energy and colours of the tourmaline relates to each of the chakras.
Shamanic use of tourmaline regionally through the ages includes healers from Africa, India, Aboriginal tribes, and Native American.
Tourmaline is a 7 – 7.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness.
